John Smith - Swordmaker
John Smith will have a special exhibit consisting of a collection of blades in various stages of construction and polish along with many of the tools necessary to forge and construct a sword.
John Smiths Bio:
"I have been forging blades since 2005 and my shop is located in Cascade Maryland on the old Ft. Ritchie military base.
I forge all my blades by hand in either my gas forge or charcoal forge, I use no machines in this process, so from start to finish all the work is done by hand.
I specialize in Japanese Style Blades with a focus on the harder to forge sugata's, I have a love for the Bizen Style Tradition for both blade Sugata and the Choji pattern Hamons, which I am currently specializing in. I hand make every part, from the blade to the Habaki and some times the Shira-Saya. My Beliefs: I believe that the steel hides the sword within, and it is my job to bring the blade to life. I find this goal to be very satisfying and surprisingly enough gives me a fairly large area for blade designs and hamon patterns.
Please feel free to ask me any questions at the show."
