3 PM - Rembukan Dojo - one of the oldest koryu dojo in North America dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo (stick fighting), Kasumi Shinto Ryu Kenjutsu (sword fighting), and Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido (sword drawing).

Mr. Okuhara resides and works in Kyushyu.  He studied to become a sayashi and became independent about 25 decades ago.  He went thru Kensyu, Tokubetstu Kensyu as offered by the Nihon Bijyutsu Hozon Koyokai and has won many awards in the Shirasaya section.

His work goal is to make his own characteristic new craftsmanship while maintaining the “Okite” (rules) in traditional sword making.  Although his specialty  is in making Shirasaya and koshirae saya he is an expert tsuka maker, tsukamakishi, and habakishi.  He also makes all sorts of sword koshirae.

He concentrates on Shirasaya  because he believes that the austere beauty of the basics of Japanese sword furnishings is a worthy lifelong pursuit.

He is a member of the following organizations:

Member of Nihon Bijyutu Token Hozon Kyokai

Member of Nihonto Bunka Shinko kyokai

Member of Bijyutsu Token Gaisou Hozon Kyokai

For our part we’ve known and worked with Mr. Okuhara for many years.  He is humble about his craft and like every great craftsman – as protective about his wood working tools as we are about our sword blades.  He is concerned about some of the inferior woods being used today that can damage or gum up his tools.  Swordstore.com will have a menu available for anyone interested in Mr. Okuhara’s services.  To the point where it is reasonable to do so, he will be happy to engage and demonstrate his craft to interested parties.
